When you hear the words Homeless, Mental Health and Substance Use,
what comes to mind?
Did You Know:
They’re "couch surfing" with friends, sleeping in cars, abandoned buildings, libraries, train & bus stations, on the streets … places not intended for people to live. |
On any given day or night, homeless adults, children, and families across our country are living and sleeping outside or in other unsuitable places and situations. They face a daily struggle to obtain and maintain the things most of us take for granted: food, clothing, shelter, personal hygiene, healthcare and support from family and friends. |
The connection between homelessness and substance use is undeniable, affecting our cities and suburban communities equally. Time spent without a stable home leads to increased mental health disorders and collateral damage from coping behaviors like substance use. |
There are many situations that lead to homelessness … broken families,
financial difficulties, drug or alcohol addiction, mental health issues.
Oftentimes, there are multiple issues involved.

Many organizations are working to help the homeless and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Yet the needs are growing faster than services can be provided.
From food and clothing to mental wellness and substance recovery services, more help is desperately needed.
